The Isle Verte campsite is situated on the banks of the Loire, a few kilometres from Saumur. The Loire à Vélo cycle route runs alongside the campsite. This cycle route connects Nevers in Burgundy with the Atlantic Ocean. If you are travelling through France along this cycle route, the Isle Verte campsite is an ideal stopover with its accommodation specially designed for cyclists. Even if you don’t follow the Loire à Vélo, you can use this cycle route to get to Saumur (15km from the campsite) and the pretty villages of the Loire Valley.

From the Isle Verte campsite in Montsoreau you can also cycle through the vineyards of Saumur or Anjou and visit Chinon or the beautiful Fontevraud Abbey.

If you’re cycling along the Loire River on the Loire à Vélo cycle route, L’Isle Verte campsite has pitches specially designed for you. You can pitch your tent around our “Vél’Abri” where you will find picnic tables, electrical connections, fridges and even beds. It is the ideal place to meet other cyclists or hikers visiting the Loire Valley and the Saumur region.

Every year, during a spring weekend, Saumur travels back in time with its Anjou Vélo Vintage event. Hundreds of vintage bikes, from the beginning of the 20th century to the 1980s, gather in Saumur for a festive weekend with disguised outings in the vineyards of Saumur and on the banks of the Loire, passing through Montsoreau and the abbey of Fontevraud.

The Isle Verte campsite in Montsoreau is nestled in a region of rare cultural wealth. Around Montsoreau and Saumur, don’t miss the troglodytic dwellings dug out of the tufa stone on the slopes of the Loire and the superb cellars that run underground in the region, such as the Ackerman cellar in Saumur, which extend over several kilometres. The white tufa stone has given their identity to the buildings around Montsoreau, such as the splendid Fontevraud Abbey where Richard the Lionheart is buried. A must-see for any stay in Saumur is the Cadre Noir and its equestrian shows. Children will love the Doué la Fontaine Zoo where animals from all over the world live in old stone quarries.
